One Tree, One Photo Story

Description: Conifers are group of cone-bearing seed plants that are ecologically important. Namely, they are the dominant plants over large areas of land, most notably the taiga of the Northern Hemisphere. Since most conifers are evergreens, the leaves of many conifers are long, thin and have a needle-like appearance. The larches are unusual in that they lose their leaves in the autumn. Before the leaves drop, they turn a spectacular yellow. The Alpine larch is a subspecies of the European larch native to the mountains of central Europe ‒ in the Alps and Carpathian Mountains. This plant has very characteristic female (seed) cones that are often found next to male (pollen) cones of less interesting appearance. Bunches of young needles are often found near the tops of young branches. All these structures create very unusual compositions. To emphasize the form and very different structure of these elements, I opted for black and white photography. A tree in the Botanical Garden in Neuchâtel (Switzerland) served as a model for me. Inspired by this tree, I took nine macrophotographs as part of the series “One Tree, One Photo Story”.
